Blogtober Day 16 - The Hallowtober Tag

How is October coming in so quickly? Whilst scouring Pinterest I came across “The Hallowtober Tag”, which I found on Our Redonkulous Life but it was created by A Geek Girls Guide and I thought I would give it a go! The questions seem to differ on each post but I’m not sure why. I have used the questions on Our Redonkulous Life.

  1. What’s your favourite thing about October?

Probably Halloween. I really love seeing Halloween decorations when I’m out walking Millie. Though I do enjoy the darker evenings.

2. Are you a big celebrator of Halloween?

Although it’s one of my favourite holidays, I don’t actually celebrate it in a massive way. I like to focus more on the Samhain side of the season. I love the idea of the thinning veil and it being easier to contact and sense loved ones.

3. What’s your favourite horror movie?

The Nightmare Before Christmas is about as “horror movie” as I go. I really don’t like horror films because I scare too easily and I have enough problems sleeping at night as it is. I watch paranormal shows and even they can be too much for me.

4. Would you rather have a cosy night in watching horrors or a big night out in costume?

Can I be inside in costume? Neither of these options sounds appealing. To be honest, if I have a costume on, it’s not long before I just want to get comfortable in my trackies and jumper again.

5. Favourite costume to date?

For my first year at my current job, the night before Halloween I spent ages making my marshmallow monsters. They took so long, I didn’t have enough time to work on a costume. I ended up wearing my marvel leggings and t-shirt and taking my marvel bag and telling everyone I was a comic strip.

6. Bobbing for apples or Pin the hat on the witch?

I hate bobbing for apples, the entire experience is just awful. The wet face and hair, the rigmarol of catching the stupid thing and at the end of it ll you get is a bloody apple and a face full of other peoples spit. I’ve never played pin the hat on the witch but I think I can guess the basics. One game I liked was the doughnut game. Trying to eat a ring doughtnut hanging on a string without using your hands.

7. How do you celebrate Halloween?

We prepare by buying sweets for trick-or-treaters, getting into some comfy, cosy clothes and finding something to watch while we wait. Then we turn off the lights, ignore the door and eat the sweets ourselves. We don’t get a lot of trick-or-treaters in our area so it feels a bit pointless buying sweets for them.

8. What’s you least favourite horror?

All of them. I’ve said it a lot since Blogtober started but, I don’t do horror. I find absolutely no pleasure in scaring myself shitless.

9. Do you have a favourite trick-or-treat memory?

I have two!

One year I was unwell. So while my cousins went out trick or treating, I stayed at my aunties house eating peanuts and handing out sweets.

When I was 20-something I was handing out sweets at my mum’s house. I opened the door to a little boy dressed as a vampire. He took his sweet, yelled “THANK YOU” and as he ran away his trainers lit up. It was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.

10. What’s your favourite thing about Halloween?

The connection. The idea of the barrier between this world and the next is fascinating. I love the idea of my Grannies being able to visit and check up on me.

11. Scary costume or silly costume?

Silly costume all the way! I don’t remember dressing as anything scary. In most of the photos I have of Halloween I’m either in something stupid or not dressed up. I have no idea what the hell I’m meant to be in this photo but the Andy Pandy costume my little cousin is wearing was made by my mum and my sister and I and both of our cousins all wore it at some point.

12. What’s your favourite Halloween sweet?

I love lollipops so much. I usually buy a big bag of them…for trick or treaters of course. There’s something very comforting about them, I find…is that weird?

13. What’s your favourite Halloween read?

I don’t know if I’d call it my favourite but “The Haunting of Ashburn House” by Darcy Coates is definitely they scariest book I’ve ever read. I was scared for weeks afterwards and I still have moments when it pops into my head.

Love Always

Debbi xx
