A workhouse orphan, Oliver experiences the terror and brutality of the criminal underworld. His companions, a thief, a whore, a pickpocket, and a fence, are destined for gruesome ends, but Oliver emerges unscathed from the darkness of the underworld. (Synopsis by Publisher)

So hands up who's seen the musical? Okay now take EVERYTHING you know about the Oliver from the musical except the names and throw it out the window! If you're thinking you'll like the book because you like the show/film/TV adaptation...don't...its VERY different. "Oliver Twist" is quite a dark tale full of twists and turns telling the story of this little orphan boys life. Its also full of unnecessary scenes which added nothing to the story. I listened to the audio book narrated by Jonathan Pryce and it was perfect, very clear and eloquent so to him I give top marks. However it was also nearly 19 hours long because of these unneeded scenes.
